As we had two birthdays last week from our members Karen and Keven, I thought it would be nice if we had a social afternoon at Bella Vita on Monday 24th at 4pm.
It will also be a good time for new members to pop along and find out what our group is like and meet us all in a social setting.
To provide a safe, inclusive and constructive environment for local writers to share and discuss their work.
We meet twice a month on a Thursday evening at 6.30 pm, our venue The Chambers Coffee Shop opens just for us so as a thank you we purchase drinks from the bar downstairs to consume during the evening.
Our group meeting includes a catch-up of all bookish news, competitions, events, submissions and writing related opportunities. A group exercise given by one of our members, which is normally a fun way to get your brain thinking about words, sentences and writing. A sharing of work for general discussion and constructive feedback for the writer. Planning for future events.
We then have a talk given by an author, illustrator, journalist, critic, poet, writer, publisher or anyone that is local to Folkestone and Kent in the book industry of some description. The talk is about 45 minutes then we have a Q&A session for everyone to participate.
There is no charge for our events, everyone is welcome plus we are very friendly.
In the future we hope to publish an anthology of our work, hold a fringe event for the Folkestone Book festival, have a door at The Folkestone Creative Advent Calendar, subject to their funding, hold a workshop for creating a WordPress blog, a book swap and reading group.
Our dream would be to build a community of ‘bookish’ people and offer Writing Retreats in Folkestone.
